sqlstate = HYT00; native error = 0; message = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired

Error in windows event logs:

[sqsrvres] CheckQueryProcessorAlive: sqlexecdirect failed

[sqsrvres] printODBCError: sqlstate = HYT00; native error = 0; message = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver]Timeout expired

Suggestions from MSDN forum link:

Reference link:

  • From the error it looks like there was issue with your network. Make sure you have a dedicated Heartbeat Network configured and that it is designated as such in Cluster Administrator.
  • The public facing network can be configured for both Public and Heartbeat (as a fail-safe), but the dedicated Heartbeat Network needs to be listed as the priority network connection for the Cluster Heartbeat priority list in Cluster Administrator.
  • Make sure the Cluster Services on each node have been assigned to a Domain User account.
  • Make sure that this account has been given login rights to the SQL Server instance. In our configurations, we leave the Default Database for this login to the master database. No other privileges are given (the QP Alive check only runs SELECT @@SERVER).
  • Follow the Cluster Configuration Best Practices and configure the Heartbeat NIC to be 10 Mb Half Duplex with NetBIOS and File/Printer sharing disabled.
  • If the Network Interfaces have any Offload Engines, disable them.
  • Check the Network drivers and if any update is available then install it from hardware vendor

Above suggested solutions might not be accurate, but to get more details further investigation should be done.
